Alternate Attunement Method 1
About the Attunement
- This attunement method was taught to me by Rialian.
- Rialian teaches this method as the method generally used by most Reiki "traditionalists", including the tradition he recieved his lineage from, as it comes from the quite popular Diane Stein school of Reiki. He observes that it may have originally become part of the Stein traditions through Mantak Chia.
- Whatever its origins, it is a useful and powerful way to attune someone to the Usui Reiki system, as the non-Usui symbol and technique are used only to assist in the attunement to the traditional Usui symbols.
How to perform the Attunement
- Draw the Cho-Ku-Rei and the Dai-Koo-Myo on each palm.
- Take a deep breath, center yourself, and call upon your guides for assistance.
- Draw the Fire Serpent/Raku/Lightning Bolt three times in the air, pulling it down each time with your palms, and say its name three times per drawing. This clears the room of any extraneous negative energy.
- Take a violet breath, draw a dai-koo-myo large in the air, and blow the symbol into the room. Release the violet breath.
- Draw each symbol into the air, push them each out to fill the room, and say their names three times each.
- Have the attunee sit with palms together at their chest. (Gassho position)
- Walk behind the attunee. Call on your guides for assistance. Take a very deep breath, and begin.
- Draw the Raku down the back of the attunee, chanting its name three times silently. This clears and aligns the chakras for the attunement
- Note: You will be holding the huan-yin point and keeping your tongue at the roof of your mouth for the remainder of the attunement. But you must still breathe, only holding your breath when forming a violet breath to blow out.
- Close the Huan Yin point and place your tongue on the roof of your mouth and take a violet breath. Circulate the ki three times through your chakras. Then visualize it as a cloud at the point between your eyes, turning from white to royal blue to violet. Draw the Dai-Koo-Myo on the violet cloud, then blow it out as a gentle violet breath across the crown chakra of the attunee. Visualize the symbol settling into the base of the skull.
- Draw the Dai-Koo-Myo over the head of the attunee and press it into the crown chakra with your hands. Then move your hands to the middle of the head, and finally to the base of the skull, silently repeating the symbol's name three times, one for each motion. This guides the symbol into the attunees chakras.
- Repeat with the Sei-He-Ki, and finally the Hon-Sha-Ze-Sho-Nen.
- Have the attunee place their clasped hands on top of their head.
- Draw the Cho-Ku-Rei over the clasped hands and guide it from the hands to the middle of the head to the base of the skull, repeating the name three times. This assists the Choku-rei into the palm chakras for the Reiki 1 attunee.
- Guide their hands back to chest position.
- Move to the front of the attunee and kneel before them.
- Take their hands and open them like a book, held in your non-dominant hand.
- Draw the Cho-Ku-Rei into the palms and tap the symbol in with three taps, repeating the symbol's name three times silently.
- Close the attunees palms and hold them between your own.
- Take a violet breath and blow gently in one continuous breath from the palms down to the feet, up to the head, and back to the palms.
- Replace the attunees hands in chest position and stand.
- Walk behind the attunee, put your hands on their shoulders suddenly and firmly, and place an affirmation that they are now a strong and confident reiki healer within them. (Or another reiki affirmation that they have requested.)
- Move your hands to the back of the neck, gently pressing both of your thumbs in, and visually draw a cho-ku-rei at that point, silently saying "I seal this attunement in light and love." This seals the attunement within the attunee.
- Move your hands to their shoulders and repeat the previous affirmation. (Or a different affirmation, their choice.)
- Walk to the front of the attunee, draw a deep breath, and release the breath as you release the Huan Yin point, gently waving the breath toward the attunee with your hands as a final blessing with Reiki energy.
- The attuneee must be fed or at least given tea immediately afterwards to ground them.
- After the attunee is grounded they must as soon as possible give a Reiki treatment. This is a good time to take a willing volunteer and show how to do a hands-on reiki treatment (and to show how one does not need to touch to channel the energy.)
Taking It Further
- For the second degree Reiki attunement, add the Sei-He-Ki and Hon-Sha-Ze-Sho-Nen to the palms.
- For the third degree add all of the symbols to the palms except the Raku.
